OBSERVATIONAL VISIT TO DAR ES SALAAM SITE
The Project Director, Prof. Ofori-Acquah and the Study Coordinator, Dr. Nana Adjei visited the Dar es Salaam Site of SickleGenAfrica on Monday, 13 August, 2018. The aim of the visit was to: 1) Check progress of enrolment; 2) Review logistical issues relating to enrolment and recommend solutions and 3) Train site staff on the Project’s Data Handling Software (REDCap) and the electronic case report form (eCRF).
The visiting team was received by, Dr. Furahini Tluway; the Site Coordinator and other members of the team – the Administrative Officer and the Data Coordinator among others at the Muhimbili University of Health and Allied Sciences (MUHAS). They visited all three sites where sickle diseases outpatients clinics are held: the main MUHAS campus, the New MUHAS Academic Centre which is two hours away from the main campus, and a regional Hospital in Kasimbi.
In Dar, samples are collected at all three clinics in the city and the separation of various samples are done in MUHAS main campus. Though logistically organized, the Dar es Salaam site suffered a few challenges administratively and therefore at the time of the visit, they had not begun enrolment.
